What's really in your well water?
Most homes in Sebring, Lake Placid, Avon Park, and throughout Highlands County get their water from private wells, and Florida groundwater has a personality of its own. Here's what we see most often and what we do about it.
What we treat
Sulfur (Rotten Egg Smell)
If your water smells like rotten eggs, especially hot water, that's hydrogen sulfide gas. It's common in Central Florida wells. It isn't usually a health risk, but it makes showers and drinking water unpleasant and can tarnish fixtures. We treat it with aeration, oxidation, or carbon filtration, depending on how strong it is.
Iron (Orange & Brown Stains)
Iron leaves rusty stains on sinks, tubs, laundry, and even your driveway from the sprinklers. It can also give water a metallic taste. An iron filter removes it before it reaches your faucets, and that protects your plumbing and appliances too.
Low pH (Acidic Water)
Water with a low pH is acidic, and it slowly eats away at copper pipes and fixtures. Telltale signs are blue-green stains and pinhole leaks. An acid neutralizer brings the pH back into a safe range so your plumbing lasts.
Hard Water (Calcium & Magnesium)
Hard water leaves white scale on faucets, glass shower doors, and inside water heaters. It also makes soap hard to lather. A water softener removes those minerals. That means less scrubbing, softer laundry, and longer-lasting appliances.
City Water (Chlorine Removal)
On city water? Municipal water is treated with chlorine to keep it safe on its way to you, but you don't need it once it reaches your home. We install whole-house systems that remove the chlorine before it enters your plumbing, so you get better-tasting, odor-free water at every tap, gentler water for your skin and hair, and less wear on your pipes, water heater, and appliances.
Not sure what's in your water?
Every well is different. That's why we start with a water test and recommend only what your water actually needs, with no guesswork and no overselling. We also repair and replace well pumps, so we can take care of the whole system, from the well to the tap.
